Regularly backflushing your Silvia will keep the brew head and screen fairly clean, but it's a good idea to disassemble every so often and clean all the individual parts. Watch as Gail takes the brew head apart and shows us the goods.

  • nope, i don't think it's just letting in more water. the water seems to really pour out all over ... could it be the gasket? i'll try putting in a new one. how does one know the size/part # for a replacement?

  • @tinbiscuite Did you try flipping over the little 'donut' up above the screen? You could have put that in upside down and it would have this affect. You can pick up a gasket on our site under the Rancilio parts - Kat

  • thank you. i guess you mean tamp less or grind coarser?

    thanks for your patience.

  • @tinbiscuite Yeah, I'd just experiment with it a bit ... but, also, if your shots are tasting fine then I'm not sure if I'd worry (personally). If you notice a difference there, then play with your grind and tamp again. It's likely you might need to tweak it :) - Kat

  • so, i took out the screw and screen and disc. cleaned them with Cafiza then brushed off the remaining coffee and re inserted. now my water is coming out stronger but there is a puddle on top of the grinds after pulling a dbl shot. i've got the grind at the same setting pre clean. not sure if i have the parts in correctly. is there a video of yours that shows how to re assemble? have i done something wrong? if you'd like i can, if i figure out how to upload pictures will do.

  • @tinbiscuite Sounds like it's OK, but just that since you have cleaned built up oil it is allowing more water through. There could be more moisture on the top because of more water flow -- you could adjust your grind or tamp if it's affecting your shot, but shouldn't really be an issue. - Kat
