He means "parents". In Spanish, there is no word for parents. You just say "mis padres", my fathers.

This must have been utterly embarrassing afterwards for him. With such great education under his belt , one would think he would at least get the basics down. However, I know Castilian and can clearly see where he got confused. He also knows French and Catlan-as far as I know-so that may play into it as well. At any rate, it should be no excuse for someone who is heir apparent to one of the greatest empires the world had ever known.
