Major Thomas Jarrett taught the first resilience-training course used by the US Army, during the Second Iraq War. He called it Warrior Resilience Training. It combined the ancient philosophy of Stoicism with the Stoic-inspired techniques of Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT). These are the highlights of a talk he gave at the Marcus Aurelius international gathering of the Stoics, in San Diego in 2010.

  • You American soldiers are not fighting for the U.S.A - you are fighting for Israel. You are all Israel's bitches, so get ready to bend over and let the Jews shove it right up you.

  • Thanks so much. That's brilliant. I came upon this not through any love of the military, but simply because I attended a symphony concert last night in which Tchaikowky Symphony No 5 was described as a struggle between fate and free will. I realized I had no real idea what that meant, and found myself hip deep in trying to understand the Stoics. So far as the military goes, if what you say is a reflection of what the US military is about, you have my respect.
