It's the crab season here in Qatar. When the winter starts, shallow coasts of Qatar gets filled with Blue Crabs (Portunus pelagicus). The males are bright blue in colour with white spots while the females have a duller green/brown colour. They stay buried under sand or mud most of the time, but come out to feed during high tide. Crab hunting is an easy sport during high tide, as you can quickly spot them in the clear shallow sea waters. Just a small stick is enough to press and hold them to the ground and then catch them with your bare hands taking care not to get pinched by their claws. Having a good pair of gloves makes the job much safer and having a long three forked spear makes it much faster. I go crab hunting most of these weekends, not just for the tasty and nutritious meal, but also for the fun of catching them. On a high tide day, we got more than hundred crabs within a span of four hours.
Well... I thought fishing is okay in every part of the world. And FYI, Blue Crabs does not belong to any endangered category and they are available here in most fish markets.
