I'd agree with you, but nowadays melodeath is almost synonymous with metalcore (which means there are definitely breakdowns)... so i'd say melodic death metal/technical deathcore

Amon Amarth, the Black Dahlia Murder, Dissection, Ensiferum, In Flames, none of them have breakdowns. I think that if a band has a breakdown, they wouldn't be melodeath.
