@kkton - Yes you can do it in Maya too, its much easier in that, I may create a tutorial for the same, its a 3 steps process actually, here I took much time explaining what all options are there for. These are not always used though.
In maya you can actually see the applied normal map in viewport too. :)
I conducted a whole day workshop on texture baking and normal mapping yesterday only. Where I explained everything in max as well as maya.

@kkton - Hahaha.. So true.. When I myself now listen to it, I feel its pathetic. :p
I had fever at the time I recorded this one and had to send the written copy to a magazine so I couldn't wait till I got well again.
But content is valuable. :D
