A short demonstration on my boxwood replica Baroque flute. BWV 1038, mvmt 2 (Vivace). I am not a Baroque flutist, but I pick it up from time to time because I love period music.

  • nice.Simon Polak? what flute, at which pitch, is this a copy of? Have you seen these videos (& the flute maker playing)? I think he has a very fine understanding of how these flutes sound.

    Thank you for the video.

  • Hi, Yes, Simon Polak. It is his Beuker's replica with the 415 section. Which videos do you refer to? Thanks!

  • that sounds beautiful. i stumbled across this while researching the origins of the modern flute structure. i don't know why anyone added any more keys or holes when that design works just perfectly.

  • where can you get sheet music for baroque flute

  • BEAUTIFUL SOUND!!!

  • I also ordered a beuker's traverso from Mr.Simon Polak, and I am the first custom from China!

  • his youtube name is 'Rottenburg77'. YOu can see videos of him playing various flutes he makes himself.

  • By beginning with pp with small relaxing embouchure as possible, you will find some good focused point that your traverso sounds very spontaneously and beautifully. You can find the tone. Good Luck!

Mine is Beukers, too. (Dined with Simon last month.)

  • Awesome, I am planning to learn the baroque flute

  • Hi Mark,

I have been performing on Simon's flutes since 1999. I think that he makes really great flutes. I have a Tassi at 392, a Beukers at 415, and a Wijne at 415. They all are really great!

One thing that I would suggest is to really try and not put as much air in to the flute like you would a modern flute. Sometimes we feel that this will lead to a louder sound. Sometimes it does and sometimes it makes the tuning much more difficult.

Have fun with the traverso. John

  • Thank you Mark. The boxwood makes a very nice sound - and so do you!
