As with L-tryptophan, 5-HTP, as a serotonin precursor, has potential to effect a wide range of bodily functions, including, but not limited to mood, appetite, sleep and sexual function. Its effects on sexual functions are least known. There is the hypothesis that 5-HTP might be nature's potent aphrodisiac. As results of a number of studies have shown, 5-HTP definitely plays a role in sexual orientation, motivation, and behavior through some synergistic pathway with testosterone. In addition, 5-HTP is also found to effect sexual maturation and response in a circadian manner.

What I'm skeptical about is how the elderly like my grandmother are put on all these medications.I think doctors prescribe the elderly on wayyy too many meds. They keep adding more meds to counteract the side effects of meds they are currently taking. Something isn't right.
