On Sunday, August 17, 2008, at Hacienda Christian Fellowship (HCF) in La Puente, Ca, 200+ people turned up at our own "attention-getting" event. Members of HCF, other churches, and people from the Chinese community showed up in support of pastor Eddie and The Gadfly Project. In a bold statement, their event mirrored Gadfly's controversial protest in which he painted 2 hotel rooms in Bejing one week before the start of Olympics. After asked why they were there, many people wanted to amplify and echo the message that was painted on the walls in Gadfly's protest. They were standing with the message of Ratify & Release, The Gadfly Project's goal which is for China to Ratify the ICCPR, and as a token of good faith, to release 5 prisoners who are unjustly being held captive.

  • I'll never forget that day we raised our voice as a community to repeat Gadfly's message of hope for those who are oppressed in China! It was awesome to see people from the Chinese community come out in support. That speaks volumes to all of the naysayers. Even further, people that weren't Christian were came out to support this project which boils down to a message of human dignity. It was never about religion. Well done Exodus8one!

  • I know Pastor Eddy Romero and what he has done is truly a work of God.

  • He was my philosophy teacher, i truly respect them, he has the courage to stand up and fight against injustice despite the consequences.

  • He's my Philosophy teacher at school! :D <3

  • Hmm...So your problem lies with God or religion, I see. Would it help if we were atheists? Then would you be comfortable with it? The unfortunate thing is that you're missing the whole point. It's by our conviction of faith that we act. Even simpler though, is our convictions as humans. These are fellow human beings whose lives are being maimed; so we speak, we act, and we move. And you're stuck on the whole religion thing. Isn't that a pity. This isn't the America of my forefathers.

  • These people dream of liberating China by religious invasion? WTF!

    No thanks.

  • Hey Femme - Thank God some people are finally getting it. This is about gaining attention. YES. Gaining attention for the plight of the suffering. A paint job is small price to pay to gain the attention of the public to a cause like this. It got your attention and now I'm sure you are praying for those being held for their faith. Grace & Peace

  • Where does it say in the Bible that the "house of God" has to be perfect and without blemish. I've seen other churches that are barely being held up and look horrible because there's no money to fix them. Are they being disrespectful? God is far less concerned about appearances than he is with actual lives. We've only brought attention to the injustices occuring. How else do you do without making some noise. Not everything in this life can be perfectly neat so that we all feel comfortable.

  • you are nothing but attention seekers! How many would have showed up without cameras? Although I understand the message you are trying to make I dont agree with the method, your pastor graffitti's hotel rooms you do the same to the church. You've made a house of god an eye sore. Have you no respect?

  • Heavenly Father (Shang-Ti) we pray (and for "us believers" around the world to remember) that you deliver our fellow brethrens (believers in Christ) in China and many other 10/40 Window nations (Christians being persecuted)-in the end-you'll get all the glory as the Gospel (Matthew 28) is spread..in Jesus' name..amen!
