ok so ive come down to playing either alto sax of trumpet. Is there a sax part in this by the way?

there is only trumpet.
I should say that when a marching band begins to get loud, woodwinds can barely be heard. If you want to join in on the loud parts, I suggest you go with trumpet.

nah, not really, I always screw up everything when I play in front of people when I'm playing an instrument so I'd actually like to be barely heard. But still do want to be actually in the marching band. Do they usually put alto saxes into marching band?
