You Bet Your Life with Buddy Hackett 1980 (3 of 3)

This is the 1980's rarely seen version of the classic Groucho Marx quiz show. The format was basically the same as Groucho's using a secret word and a duck. In Hackett's program, the duck is named Leonard, which was Hackett's real name Leonard Hacker
The show was produced by Hill-Eubanks Productions. Bob Eubanks was the host of The Newlywed Game for many years

I used to watch that show in person in the 1980s. The show filmed at a theater on Vine Street between Hollywood and Sunset Blvds. The theater had once been ABC Radio and later the Merv Griffin Theater. Buddy was very fast and funny and he ad libbed very well.

Aside from this version and Groucho's version, there were two other attempts to bring back this show. There was a pilot in 1988 hosted by Richard Dawson, but it didn't sell. In 1992, there was a syndicated version that lasted one season hosted by Bill Cosby.

not necessarily saying that Buddy could top Groucho(and i really don't that was ever Buddy's intention), but given time, Buddy would have really made the show his own while continuing to give Groucho his due......just a shame it didn't catch on...........just another potentially great show that wasn't given enough time....le sigh........
