Anne Marie's reel is a great Canadian-American tune and is meant to be played a very brisk tempo. Unfortunately it becomes a surprisingly difficult tune to play cleanly at a"real reel" tempo were it becomes a bit of a"finger twister" -- so to speak.

One source I read claims the tune is more often played in the key of A but for some reason the version I picked it from was in G major. I will probably want to re-learn it in the more common key.

I play it here three times through in AABB format at about 150 bpm.

Although supposedly known this tune does not seem real popular as I do not find another version on it on YouTube right now? In addition, little is mentioned about it in places like the Fiddler's Companion. If anyone has special knowledge of the tune or recordings of it please let me know.

There is apparently a recorded version by Ottawa Valley fiddler, Dawson Girdwood and he in turn leaned it from the great Canadian 'Down East' fiddling exponent Don Messer

Played on a 1920 Gibson F-2 mandolin fitted with D'Aquisto M21 phosphor-bronze strings with a Wegen TF-140 pick.

  • @cathal627 Hi Cathal! Thanks for listening. Yes different tune -- this one seems to have originated on this side of the Atlantic but even so its hard to find any recorded versions of it.
