NUTS - is prob short for "NUTS to that" or - for you "tech-savvy" otaku :P - "f* to that". Capiche? No.? *sigh* Didn't think so - so let's just say "NUTS to you"

@darthgrahf When given the piece of paper upon which the Germans had penned their demands, McAuliffe simply tossed it aside proclaiming "Ahh nuts". He then went on a short jeep ride, visiting front line positions, boosting moral amongst the troops. When he returned to his CP the German was still there prompting the McAuliffe to ask why. Harry Kinnard, the Division operations Officer, told McAuliffe the German was awaiting a reply to the surrender, suggesting that "NUTS" should be the reply.

No. According to most accounts of people who were there he said, "Nuts." Vincent Vicari, McAuliffe's personal aide, who was present, told AP reporter Richard Pyle "General Mac was the only general I ever knew who did not use profane language. 'Nuts' was part of his normal vocabulary."
Historian & General S.L.A. Marshall confirms this story in "Bastogne: The First Eight Days".
