Will the OBi unit still be able to make calls when your computer is off?

Yes, you will be able to make calls when the computer is off. No computer is required to use the OBi (a computer browser is only used to set-up the initial config). The OBi devices are stand-alone, purpose-built products. Every OBi device has high availability and reliability. It is 'always-on' to make or receive a call. With every OBi device, a computer is not required and a computer does not need to be on to talk on the phone.

With Google Voice (or any other VoIP service) you can make AND receive phone calls on the phone(s) attached to your OBi device.

My internet connection is restricted and cannot use VOIP service directly. I use a VPN connection to connect to a VOIP service. Will the OBi device work in my case?

Yes you can. Go for it! No need to deal with calling cards or expensive call back services. Just use your OBi and its configured VoIP services, like Google Voice.

There is absolutely no fee of any kind to use the OBi device. However, depending on the type(s) of commercial VoIP services you use, there may be a small fee. We recommend the use of Google Voice for free calling in the USA and Canada. we also recommend the following service providers for use with the OBi: Anveo, Callcentric, VoIP.ms, CallWithUs, AcroVoice (Canada), VoicePulse. All of these service providers will be able to offer you great service.

It's easy to make an OBi-to-OBi call. Just dial **9 and the 9-digit OBi Number printed on the bottom of your OBi device. It's 100% free (Internet service fees notwithstanding).
