  • Is the machine noisy? I have a cuisineart but its super noisy and gives out an unpleseant motor smell when churning, so i never use it indoors. If this is better, i'd sell my cuisineart away for this =)

  • @MightyRoy - the De'Longhi gelato machine is in fact less noisy than the Cuisinart ice cream maker. Our machine runs at 70 decibels, the equivalent to conversation in a restaurant, whereas the Cuisinart machine runs at 75 decibels, the equivalent to a garbage disposal. The motor on the De'Longhi gelato maker is contained within the unit, so it does not give off any unpleasant odors. Please let me know if I can answer anymore questions.

  • prowlman: there is an hermetic seal on the lid, so you cannot blend air into the mix. however, you can substitute cream for the milk; the taste will be similar to ice cream, but the consistency will be creamier like gelato.

    They are both comparative in price, however I have never used one before so I can't decide between the two

  • It looks pretty soupy when it is being scooped out of the machine. Does it thicken if you leave it in longer, or is that as good as it gets??

  • Still loving the gelato maker. I can't bring myself to buy mass produced ice cream. As a matter of fact, I am making more vanilla crema, berry, and coffeeto restock my freezers. I need to figure out how to make pistachio for my wife. Did I say I love this machine a few times ;)

  • I've made the crema vanilla, dairy vanilla, berry with blackberry and raspberry, coffee, and pumpkin. The coffee is all of the grownups favorite, mine too. I always strain the mixes a couple of times before freezing. Better consistency then. Also, temper any egg mixture by putting the hot into the bowl with the eggs a little at a time, then move it all to the stove. I am extremely satisfied with the machine though. -D

  • Well, it has been a couple of months that I have had the machine. It does everything that the glossy says it does. The machine is a little bit loud. I get around that by putting it in another room if we have company. I did try to put it in the garage at a friends house and saw a small issue not wanting to freeze so you need to be aware of the ambient temperature. When using the recipes that came with the machine I always made double. This would give you roughly 4 cups of "mix".

    Please post your own experience. Did you make ice cream with it? Does it work to make ice cream ?

    Is the plastic churner kind of flimsy? I would have liked that to be made of stainless steel too.
