Recently, SVMHS and Monterey County were honored by the American Heart Association for its Stemi system of care. The 9-1-1 heart campaign was launched in May 2010. It included the deployment of EKG's in ambulances, allowing paramedics to identify a Stemi in the field... And begin life-saving patient care immediately. Once diagnosed the goal is to get the patient from hospital door to Cath lab in 90 minutes or less. Since the program's inception, the average time has shrunk to 57 minutes. By comparison, patients who don't arrive by ambulance by calling 9-1-1 average 88 minutes.
