u can play the e flat in first inversion by simply barring the 3rd fret instead of doing it the way he was

@616monk1 I don't think so. The only triads resulting when you barre are a second inversion major chord between the 4th, 3rd, and 2nd strings, and a root position minor chord on the 6th, 3rd, and 2nd strings or the first inversion of that chord on the 3rd, 2nd, and 1st strings, which means you would only get a second inversion Bb chord or a Gm or a Gm in first inversion, none of which contain that Eb that is apparent (there is a clear half step resolution to Gm).
