Indonesian Helicopter Slips, 2 Die

Moving on to Indonesia, where a helicopter accident has killed two people. Our Jakarta bureau brings us the story.

STORY:
The atmosphere was one of sadness at the home of Sri Setia Budi yesterday, especially when his body was returned to his family. His father could not hold back his tears upon seeing his son no longer breathing.

Budi and his friend, Ahmad Suparja, died after the helicopters propellers cut their bodies.

The accident was so horrific the body parts had to be reunited and sewn together before their families could take them.

According to eyewitness accounts the two unlucky staff members stood at the left side of the helicopter when the incident took place. The helicopter first slipped to the right after the rear propeller failed, making the helicopter shake. The main propeller then hit the 2 victims. The helicopter's body was dented and it's glass broken, and now sits covered by a blue tarpaulin.

Suddenly his wife is knocking at my door and weeping. I thought there must be a big problem. She said that his brother told her that Mr. Budi had died while on duty. Long ago, I was also one of the Pelitas staff, taking care of the same helicopter for 10 years, no problem at all. So Im a little surprised, how this accident could happen.

The Indonesia National Transportation Safety Commission is still investigating the cause of the Pelita Airs SuperPuma helicopter accident at Pondok Cabe airport. The investigation process will be lengthy, since its the first time this kind of accident happened at the airport.
