I think it is spelled "plaits" not "plats." And I think that plaits and braids are essentially the same thing but we say braid more commonly in the U.S.

@rockert89 Depends on where you're from. In the most English speaking European countries, loose braids are referred to as plats; where as in most parts of the US a braid is a loose hanging "braid;" the term "plats" are not used in common US American jargon. Perhaps your reference to a "braid" is what Americans call a "cornrow."

This is not getting nowhere at all because I thought the lady was supposed to be doing is to braid the girl's hair to her scalp but instead she's showing us plats?! These experts are totally CONFUSED!! smh
