The worst drought in 60 years has left more than 13 million people in the Horn of Africa dependent on emergency aid for survival. The hardest hit area is southern Somalia, where chronic instability and violence have transformed a grave emergency into a catastrophic famine.
The Horn of Africa crisis has produced devastation that has shocked even veteran relief workers. Countless families are being broken up as mothers and children leave Somalia in search of relief while their husbands stay behind to care for relatives who are too old, too sick, or too weak from hunger to flee. These heroic women and their families are survivors of the century's biggest humanitarian emergency. Find out how you can help by visiting http://www.care.org
