In January 2009, a refurbished building near Paisley town centre, 'Abercorn Street', opened as the new base for Renfrewshire Council's 'Housing Advice & Homeless Services'. This previously derelict property now provides modern, comfortable, customised facilities for homeless applicants and staff in a convenient town centre location, and has become the 'hub' for a range of new initiatives that help to tackle and prevent homelessness in Renfrewshire. During 2009 the Housing Advice & Homeless Services team also launched a new 'George Street Service' to provide more focussed help and support to anyone in Renfrewshire who was homeless, at risk of becoming homeless, or required help to keep their home. Working with a range of partners, the Housing Advice & Homeless Service, including the 'George Street team', has provided support, care and access to affordable housing for those who are homeless, and generally 'makes things happen' for those in housing need.
