Skunkworks - awesome vintage '65 Fender Mustang

Great sound from the old axe. Original composition done while still in school (essentially an exercise in writing a piece around an augmented chord progression).

Recently recorded all instruments multi-track on my Mac to hear the entire piece. Trying various effects for the overlayed lead guitar piece. The amp is an original 1966 valve VOX from the old JMI stable (a rare AC50 Beatles version with the separate amp head, not the meagre AC30), running through a Zoom effects box with slight chorus, a bit of reverb and overdrive on one of the selections that I use.

The careful listener will hear a couple of classic Les Paul tricks used to add colour to the sound.

I have heard this too. There are some called Kinman pickups (I hear good things) - wound the traditional way but eliminate some noise inherent in the originals. I can agree that there is slight noise with the Mustang but then I really like the pure old Fender sound. And its not that prominent. Bought a Strat and found it was even noisier and intruded on the quieter sections of performance. For very quiet accompaniment some Strats might be an issue. No such problem with the Mustang.
