Midway through the 1987 Winston Western 500 at Riverside International Raceway #3 Dale Earnhard and #5 Geoff Bodine have an absoloutly great battle for the lead.

And it was in this battle that Earnhardt had the REAL Pass in the Grass, or Pass in the Dirt as it were.

A truley great battle, yet neither driver would actually win the race.

  • I love it!!! Dale Sr was hands down the best "wheelman" to hold the wheel of a chevy.. I've never seen Jimmie Johnson pull a move like that!! Am I the only one that thinks nascar has gone to absolute shit??I dont care if Jimmie wins ten championships.. He wont ever make a pimple on Sr's ass!

  • I miss the 80's in nascar. Look at those sideways cars!!!

  • now that's what I call a "pass in the grass"!

  • And Rusty wins the race... Bodine finishes 10th and Sr. outside the top ten.... Exciting racing, but for what finish?

  • Love the aerocoupes !!!!!!!

  • the racing monte carlo ss

there were not even any camry's in the fan parking lot

  • @horsesboy Dale and Geoff had a looong history racing against each other. I've got a program from Martinsville Speedway from 1976 that had them listed in the starting order of the NASCAR Sportsman division racing Nova's.

  • The last of the cars they raced on the track that were pretty identical to the cars you could buy at the dealership. That Monte Carlo SS was a slick looking racer and a highly successful one too.

  • That right there is two of the best wheel-men ever to get into a race car giving it their all.

  • I've been looking everywhere for this, I dunno how Dale did it, he could drive a car. I just wish I could've gone to a race he was in, and just love no matter how he was running, but just to watch my hero go by every lap in front of me...

  • i never liked earnhardt as a driver because he would take people out to win a race. but, i think he was the best race car driver, ever. as a person off the track, he helped people out if he could. i live in charlotte and i've heard stories over the years about dale helping folks out. he would give you the last $10.00 or $20.00 in his pocket so you could buy gas to get back home from a track.

  • @IRLIndyCar hell yea thats when it was great & many greats were made.
