http://www.ted.com Local politics -- schools, zoning, council elections -- hit us where we live. So why don't more of us actually get involved? Is it apathy? Dave Meslin says no. He identifies 7 barriers that keep us from taking part in our communities, even when we truly care.

TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at http://www.ted.com/translate.

  • @bentothetenthpower Man, if you're good and you destroy evil, that doesn't mean you become evil. That's a non-sequitur. The purpose of good is to destroy evil. That's like saying Zeus became evil by casting Hades to the underworld. Gimme a fucking break.

Even Gandhi said you must resist evil in all its forms in ANY way you can. If you can't do so non-violently, then by all means do it violently, which is what I'm espousing. Starting with Whitey who created the fucking mess we're living in now.

  • @buzzin1975

Exactly! That is why killing all the elites is a stupid idea! If you allow evil to exist, it will grow.

Murder is evil even if you do it to murderers, so who kills them? And how do we deal with this new evil?

Instead, we maintain moral authority, by denying those who reveled in luxury the slightest bit of extraneous wealth, simply withholding from them the privilege and power that they have created for the sole purpose of abusing.

We would do no evil in the pursuit of good..

  • @bentothetenthpower Umm, evidently, you haven't been paying attention to history for the last 100,000 years. Every major religion talks about destroying evil - not sending them to fucking farm daycare. Even Hinduism says that you should destroy evil in all its forms, even if it's your own brother (see Bhagavad Gita). The reason why is simple - if you allow evil to exist, eventually it'll spread, like Whitey did over the last 500 years.

  • @buzzin1975 I was putting forward my own views. Not suggesting that the elites do not engage in genocide.

As for the "Farming for Tyrants" option, what would you suggest? Murdering them? Where is your moral authority then? You are just as bad ad the tyrant if you kill those you disagree with.

However, scraping a living from the soil for the rest of their lives, living in whatever hovels that they could build with their own hands seems fitting.

A way for the proud to learn humility.

    Fitting

  • Damn!

  • @bentothetenthpower Extermination of people is not an option, huh? What do you think whitey's been doing for the past 500 years? Helping the aborigines and indigenous peoples of the planet survive?

A good punishment for tyrants is subsistence farming? What kind of fucking punishment is that? That's like sending a murderer to daycare.

You stupid fucking imp. You should be eradicated just for your stupidity.

  • @buzzin1975

    Fool.

I never made the slightest reference to the word "colored".

As for your assessment, I strongly disagree. No-one is unnecessary by nature, and extermination of people should not be seen as an option in any case.

I actually put forward the idea that a good punishment for overlords and tyrants would be to sentence them to live by subsistence farming for life.

I am against capitol punishment, war, murder of all forms.

So, don't put any more fucking words in my mouth.

    Ass.

  • @bentothetenthpower Hey dipshit, white skins is necessary but not sufficient to get into the rich albino club. Guess what, if you ain't got white skin, you ain't necessary, get it? I'm not saying all white people are rich. What I'm saying is for you to even qualify for it, you got to be white. So, basically, the "colored" people as you so eloquently put it are just taking up unnecessary space on the planet, ripe for extermination.
