May 9th and 16th on PBS at 9:00PM. Episode 3. The War on Ideas. Italy, 1522. The decadence of a Medici Pope in Rome outrages the devout priest in Germany named Martin Luther. In the face of the Protestant Reformation, a fanatical monk sets out to exterminate the heresy. On his path to power he will create the Roman Inquisition. And he will become the most hated Pope in history. Powerful leaders of the Catholic Church are arrested and imprisoned, accused of reading books banned by the Church. Free-thinking students are silenced. Darkness descends on the centers of learning and Renaissance. The Roman Inquisition leaves a legacy that lasts into the twentieth century.

  • In my opinion, the best way to learn about Catholicism is by studying credible historic records, papal declarations and then compare that to the teaching of Jesus Christ as documented in the first four gospels of The New Testament. After that, draw your own conclusions.

  • Thanks..IF you look at the Council of Nicea, Constantine knew the only way to preserve atleast a portion of the Roman Empire was to embrace then hijack the Scriptures and Christianity itself. St. Francis of Assisi was said to have gotten so angry at a proponent of this, he literally "punched" his oppent's light's out then left. Scripture that would have NOT have supported the Papacy, Mary-ocracy, and Catholicism being "THE CHURCH" were hidden and punishable by death to disclose for 1000 yrs.
