Made for Chris Simpson in October 2007 this is a film of the world's finest intact example of a submerged B17 bomber. Situated off Island Vis on the coast of Croatia, the aeroplane was shot down by German anti aircraft fire while flying over Slovenia during WWII in 1944. The pilot escaped alive from the attack when it belly landed onto the Adriatic Sea. Known as the "Flying Fortress" the Boeing B17 is best recognised in recent times for being featured in the film Memphis Belle. The music used is Hollow Requiem which was self composed especially for the film. It is one of the finest wreck dives in the world and as I'm sure you will agree with Ivan, was "an excellent day....."

  • Thanks for the comment. To be honest I've dived it before and other than info about the well being of the pilot I have never been able to get any real marking or number identification. I will certainly make enquiries but much more is known about the example in Corsica. Will keep you informed if I get anywhere.

  • Thanks Bomberguy....Your support has been inspirational. Please please keep up your enthusiasm for this era and artifacts. The coolbluefilms crew.

  • R.I.P my friend . did you get her name

  • such a sad sight. What a beautiful aircraft, wrecked to hell.

  • @coolbluefilms this is a tech dive isn't it?? If it's the one I've read about it's at about 75 meters. I've dove in Croatia but not Vis. Thinking about going there this summer.

  • that almost made me cry that was a great video thanks

  • They cant. If they brought it to the surface the oxygen would get to the already corroded metal and it would oxidize it even more. Meaning it would turn to a dust of some sort or just be so crippled that it would fall apart.

  • they need to restore that now

  • Wow, Visibility looks excellent.

  • thats a big plane

  • 2nd Lt. marsh, he was the copilot.

  • just out of interest, what was your granpa's name and rank mate
