The IMF and the World Bank have compelled Latin America to make structural adjustments that follow the American model. But are Latin American countries reaping the benefits or are Western nations receiving lower cost goods as Latin American countries watch the foundation of their agricultural economy driven out by an inability to compete with invading corporations?

Thomas Bender, author of A Nation Among Nations: America's Place in World History, sat down with Dean Lawrence R. Velvel of the Massachusetts School of Law to discuss the reasoning for foreign hatred toward the United States.

  • Capitalism: make money however best you can and don't depend on or trust anybody (even the government) other than Yours Truly. If your business fails, c'est la vie ^^

Mercantilism: make money as much and as best as you can, but influence government policy to your favour so you can make money and maintain hegemony over the economy, thus allowing you to make money beyond what a natural (i.e., capitalist) economic cycle would allow.

  • So much stupidy he just say. Let me tell the fact and the fact is = Free market, capitalism and none intervention from governmant its a marvelous thing.

  • maybe thats why chavez is so popular? Thats his entire platform. listen to his speeches. they'll all about resisting globalization and neo-liberalism and his entire base is the poor people who were effected by the neo-liberalism of the past couple decades.

  • I think you might have misunderstood, the person being interviewed seemed to me to be poking fun at the fact that it's a god given right, and even more specifically a god given right to the US. I'm pretty sure his reply to the question would have been yes.

  • Not true guys. Privitization is not a God given right.

It is corporate greed to raid the public, which goes hand in hand with corporate ownership of who is elected to office. It's easier to control 3000 people than it is to control 300,000,000. It's simple compound corporate interest:-)

Maybe that Chavez guy has something right?

Better repent of your greed and pride buddy.

  • good mini clip
