The roof rack is a gimmick with little utility. I bought a 2010 outback for my family of 4 kayakers. This rack system can only carry 2 kayaks and the rack is desisgned such that it wont accomodate after market racks like the earlier models. The outback might get you to the river but you better get another vehical to bring your equiptment. consider your needs before you buy the cross bars also can only go in one position so you cant very the spacing between the bars for your specific needs.
