@Lisa466v Yes, I was educated about Mariachi music by my hispanic friends over the course of 25 years of living in San Diego. I have great respect for it. It also is very similar to the Polka music I grew up around in Minnesota as a youngster..very similar musical stylings. Mariachi music originated shortly before Texas was "annexed" from Mexico. Keep learning Spanish..it is a beautiful and romantic language and study the history of Mexico and it's great and wonderful people!

@altadude1 but you do know that texas has nothing to do with mariachi music right? Mariachi probably began in the 19th century or even before that, but mariachi originated in the southern state of jalisco. I know a little about this because I like mariachi specially when they sing romantic songs. I would say it is one of their main things. Even though I can't speak spanish, but I'm trying to learn.

@joeocho88 Mariachi originated in the southern part of jalisco maybe around the 19th century not texas. So it is not American music.
