Scenes from Beaver Pond on an October morning. This time a wild Red Shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus) approaches a small shallow pond containing live fish. The hawk eventually lands in the water where it grabs one of the fish. When another fish gets too close, the hawk grabs it too, and eventually flies off with one fish in each talon. Beaver pond is located in central South Carolina (USA), and has been a wildlife observation station for over 30 years (filmed 15 October 2007).
Very damned cool. I'm a falconer and a former zookeeper, and this is a definite first with a Redshoulder for me. Great vid!

Many thanks and glad you enjoyed the vid! I used to be zookeeper also and did a falconry apprenticeship in order to be able to do some raptor rehabilitation (back in the late 1970's). The raptor in this video was completely wild, though he wasn't very wary of this somewhat artificial feeding situation.
