While I believe his intentions are in the right place, I think TF totally missed the point of Pogobat's video. Moreover, I fear his age keeps him from being aware of how bad the quality of public schools in the US have gotten in the wake of Columbine, and how bad conditions are for college graduates looking for employment, especially in a field related to their major. As such he can't really be blamed for his misunderstanding, save that it is characteristic of increasing sloppiness in his videos. He doesn't do himself any favors, and ultimately I'd like to see him return to the well constructed arguments that gained him his renown in the first place. Having seen similar sentiments elsewhere, I reckon it's time to do a little "peer review" on the f00t, because we all need reminders on occasion.

Apparently its not just the (ex-)students who have a problem with the current system

  • I am quite confused by much of your nonsense in here. Particularly, when you a.) observe that HTWW is wrong and then b.) argue that his wrongness counts a "deconstruction" of tf00t's argument. These two claims are logically incompatible.

  • @integralmath Allow me to simplify. I'm essentially saying, in regards to TF on HTWW, "I agree with you on X, however, the argument you used to advance X was crap. Use better arguments."

  • @Celephais42: which has nothing whatever to do with what I said. You claim that tf00t's arguments were deconstructed by a refutation you yourself reject as being true. If the response is untrue, then it cannot be either a refutation or a deconstruction in any meaningful sense. It is completely a nonsensical arrangement of words as it is not something that can map onto reality.

  • @integralmath You still misunderstand. I reject HTWW's overall philosophy and agree with the one TF was promoting at the time. But TFs use of ad-hom and poisoning the well was bad argumentation, and poor rhetorical strategy

  • Amusing. Go read some economics text books (Which you can also buy on Amazon). Look up education, this 'question' is examined from virtually every direction with the exception of irrational processes such as religion (Economists don't really see a bunch of Bronze age cultists trying to protect the sanctity of their religion by discouraging education as a reasonable argument for reducing investment in hard education).

  • @Pwn00b What I was attempting to address in this video... And poorly executed... Is that any individual based on their individual situation may have valid reason to delay formal education. Example: I recently bought a house, cash in full (yay crappy housing market). Because of said crappy market, I wouldn't be able to sell. I desire to go back to school to BE an educator. The political climate is not friendly to teachers in my state atm, and I have a job that provides benefits and insurance now

  • You and him look the same :P!

  • i could take this response more seriously if you hadn't used porno music.

  • Oh yes, the ol 'I learn differently' hocus pocus. Sure sure, everyone is a genius like Bill Gates. That's right, advocate people to drop out when the skill level is already too low. The solution to shit schools and average university degrees is to STUDY MORE; and go to a college that matters.

    Man you Americans are dumb...

  • The internet may have a lot of free facts, but a lot of it is contradictory, wrong, or missing (especially things learned in junior and senior years). There's also no guarantee one has gone through all the facts needed for the corresponding degree simply by having internet access. Besides, it wouldn't hurt to have a professor explain the stuff in more detail (usually) if one has any questions. This might not be Tf00t's argument, but I just don't like how you ridicule him about "free facts".

  • Graduates may be less likely to get a job, but what jobs are we looking at?

3:00 Considering ALL possible jobs, 60% is actually pretty high. Plus, this number doesn't mean much without the corresponding number from those without a degree.

3:21 And who would we look to for these "good arguments"?

  • People DO have different learning styles...but if it can't be accommodated for by any known teaching method (including self-teach), what good is it? Accommodation is a two-way street; teaching can and has adapted to the needs of students, but sometimes the student has to adapt too. Considering the current state of institutionalized education, I think students need to adjust more, not universities.

  • @kyle92223 oh right so Richard Branson didn't learn a thing? Mike Hudack also didn't learn a thing right? You are not smarter or better by default if you have an education. And I have a Bachelor btw.

  • >see title

    >leave a dislike

    >go back to Thunderf00t
