@PaulDeFitter The whole on the Spyderco Bushcraft blade is actually a lanyard whole . You could use this to make a spear or rig up a type of a grip lock using both lanyard wholes .

@ HammockCampingGuy Ya, the scandi grind is a pleasure to sharpen freehand . I purchased a Spyderco Bushcraft yesterday . This knife's quality looks as good as some of the higher end Bushcraft knives and the Spyderco Bushcraft is about half the price of those other knives I'm talking about . That is pretty much why I pulled the trigger yesterday for the Spyderco Bushcraft Black G-10 .

PaulDeFitter is thinking of the Timberwolf Bushcraft knife . I'm looking at the BHK & Timberwolf & your Spyderco, Bushcraft Knives . I'm going to purchase one of these this week . Hows your Spyderco Bushcraft doing for you all around since you got it ? Have you used it much and have you had to sharpen it yet ? How sharp was it new out of the box ? Looks like a beautiful workable knive ! After having it for a while would you of still bought this knife all over again ?

Really clever way to rig the fire kit to the sheath using shock cord. I hope your new knife works well for you on your next trips.

I have this same Spyderco, in a Burled Wood Handle. Had the knife almost a year. Love this knife.
I have noticed with humid Florida conditions, swamps and such, rust is a small issue. Keeping it oiled and clean as much as possible. I USE MY KNIFE. Incredibly sharp long lasting edge.

Great review. I'd love to see the knife in action. Both are a little expensive for my taste but it's nice to see quality gear and new products. Thanks!
@pcnazz I haven't used it a lot yet but from what I've experienced so far it's a great knife. I'm real happy with it thus far. I haven't sharpened it yet. Looking at getting some water stones to sharpen it.

I see that the knife has Bushcraft UK with logo printed on the blade, did you get this from the UK ?.
Any hoo..that's one good looking blade.
Oh yeah.. what's the hole for ? any idea ?

@PaulDeFitter Spyderco co-designed the knife with the Bushcraft UK group. I bought my knife from a Spyderco dealer on Ebay. The hole serves to purpose other than cosmetics. Most all Spyderco knives have the hole. On the folders it's beneficial in opening the blade but it doesn't do anything on a fixed blade that I'm aware of.

Drainage hole are overrated. Unlike on a backpack, water won't build up to the point it will weight you down. On a knife sheath they won't prevent your blade from been wet. To prevent any corrosion you have to wipe the moisture off and apply oil, if needed, when you are done. In other words, a drainage hole is not a pass for being careless.

@newtubetubetube Yeah, that's kinda what I was figuring. Plus if you oil your knife regularly it's probably going to start to absorb into the leather inside the sheath and kind of help oil the knife each time you sheath it.
