Over the past few years, Merrigong has collaborated with the Illawarra Disability Trust to run a series of mixed abilities workshops, putting performers from Altogether Drama (the Trust's established drama group) together with members of the local professional performing arts community to create strong development opportunities for all participants.
Out of this collaboration has grown a desire to develop both an artistic and professional theatre outcome.
Since late 2010, two actors from Altogether Drama (Phillip Prentice and Rachel Murphy) and local professional actors (Alicia Battestini and Drayton Morley) have been working under the direction of Anne-Louise Rentell (Merrigong's Artistic Associate) to create a new theatre work. The project has also called on the skills of other local professional artists -- digital artist Toby Knyvett and circus director Jane Davis.
Here Rachel talks about how she feels about the Blaze development.
