"You tell yourself that you've mellowed with the years, but I know I haven't." This is what Kyung Wha Chung says on her Brahms violin concerto during her interview with Gramophone Magazine and it is called "Passion without compromise". So, twofinedays, Im surprised Mrs Chung actually said that she does not try to be a "perfectionist" anymore.

She said it on an interview with a Korean media in 1997 when she came to Korea to have concerts celebrating her 30th anniversary of international debut. I'm sorry I cannot note down exactly what she said word by word, but basically she meant that it doesn't mean much to obsessively trying to make things 'perfect' and that it's more of going away from true music-making.

2 years later, when her second collection of short pieces was released, she commented about 'Beau Soir', which is the only music she recorded for both her first and second collection of short pieces in more than 10 years of time apart, that she dosen't like her first record because it's too stiff. Indeed one can hear how she managed to relaxe her music, as natural as breathing, in her second record of 'Beau Soir'.

IS this performance before or after her recording with St Luke Ensemble?

After. This concert took place in 1997, and the recording on EMI label was done in, I believe (because I don't have the CD with me at the moment) in 1999 or early 2000.
