Sausage and apples has been my favorite for years. I first had it in the 8th grade when we had a civil war cooking class and sausage and apples was a cheap meal the union fed soldiers. Except i never saw it on a stick before...i fry the sausage and cut it into crumbs then add the apples in and let them cook together for a few minutes...it's so amazing, and as u said so simple. i love it.
