Props if you watched it all the way to the end, I probably couldn't.

These are just some thoughts and frustrations I have with the whole concept of being a "nerd" and a "nerdfighter".

I have no idea what happened at the end. The video like looped itself or something,..

  • there's always gonna be people like that unfortunately.

But it shouldn't tarnish your view of the whole culture.

I often get embarrassed due to the epic levels of stupidity fans of my football team, sometimes outright disgusted, but it doesn't change my view of the team as a whole.

  • @PositiveTension505 That's definitely a good point.

I love nerdfighteria and nerdom, it's just that I don't think it's a good idea to label yourself as something and remain strictly within those bounds...

  • It's the lord of the flies conundrum, you try to form a better society but sooner or later the signal fire's gone out and there's nut jobs chasing you through the jungle with spears.

    Wait........wut.

  • Are you related to Hank Green? Because you seriously have his hand movement thing

  • Anyone who thinks their made of awesome is by definition not made of awesome.

  • Exactly on the spot. Well done!!!

  • I quite liked this! It calls to mind the same irritation I feel when people add adverbs to their claims of being a nerd...i.e., when they're like "Oh, I'm soooo nerdy" or "I'm so much more a nerd than you" because the idea of competing for a label is...wrong. There isn't, and shouldn't, be hierarchies within labels like that because I think that turns you from being identified by a sum of different parts to letting a label define you completely.

    ...if that makes any sense.

    But good video, sir!

  • I want to add to my previous comment though, that while I am not against of the term nerdfighter or the good values most of the community shares, I do agree on the fact that some people shoul really get off their high horse.

  • I have to say... I agree with this, with your whole video actually. Sometimes people start using names to define themselves and others, nerdfighters in this case, due to the warm feeling of community it provides (specially welcomed when one's always been the nerdy, the underdog, the bullied)... then sadly - and I've seen this many times - they become a "group" which is basically a definition that states what's in and what's out. Things like that made us the underdogs in the first place

  • The nerdbrothers are in the business of benevolence. Check out the video here called "Spiritual Practices - Part 2" by SageBodisattva. Seriously. It shows you what REAL charity is. Even the word "nerdfighter" is designed to make the sheep feel special & exclusive in some kind of clan club (belonging) and keep them following the Bo Peep. It's to keep them reeled in and buying all of the overly poiltically correct ideals & of course to buy nerd merchandise. Nerdfighters are being used.

  • I like what you said about how DFTBA means we forget to be awesome, and not because we are ALWAYS awesome. That's a good insight. : )

  • This is so true. I love you for making this video, because we DO forget that people are just... people. Nerds or not, we are all human.

  • THIS. THIS. THIS.
