The struggle to save the Stanislaus River. They just don't make rivers like they used to. We have to protect the ones we have left. I've never seen anyone make a river, but I've witnessed a river destroyed by voters misled by a deceptive campaign. Mark Dubois is an environmental hero to me and I'll always be awestruck by his courage and the huge impact he has made upon our planet.

This song is on my CD entitled "High Tide" available at CDBaby, Amazon, iTunes, and beyond.

The images in this video came from Christian Kallen's wonderful documentary "Last River Lost" about the struggle to try to save the Stanislaus River. You can see that video here

River's Got To Flow - Stan Wells

Hey mister whatcha doing over there?
Trying to dam the river don't you think that we care?
Whole lot of people here want you to know
The river's got life and it's got to flow
Freely from the mountains to the sea
Thunderous roar of eternity
Crystal clear water from the melting snow
The river's got life and it's got to flow

Hey mister now can't you see
The river's for you and the river's for me?
Tell me please who you think you are
Rearranging the land with a permanent scar?
Ain't it high time that you looked a little bit
Beyond your own damned interests?
If only you could see you're really up a tree
Cutting off the branch that you're sitting on

Hey mister now don't you know
If you build that dam a lot of beauty's gonna go
Down the drains of your industrial brains
On your mindless crusade of disastrous change
There's only two ways To know the river's grace
One is to sing the river's song
The other's just to dam it and then see what's gone

So please mister won't you try to understand
That the fate of the river lies in your hands
Your bulldozing consciousness has got to awaken
If we're ever going to save what hasn't been taken
It's a crying shame money's the name of your game
Cause the the things that you take cannot be bought
It's a lesson by now you should've been taught

Hey mister whatcha doing over there?
Trying to dam the river don't you know that we care?
Whole lot of people here want you to know
The river's got life and it's got to flow

Freely from the mountains to the sea
Thunderous roar of eternity
Crystal clear water from the melting snow
The river's got life and it's got to flow
