Not to be discouraging but this stuff is all common and no way dates back to the 1800s. Get a good bottle book that shows how to date bottles and you will see what I mean. A fascinating hobby no matter what and it gets you into the great outdoors - what could be better than that?

Stick a probe or just a long thin metal rod in the ground til you hit hard clay dirt.you will be able to tell exactly how deep it is.

The brown bottle with the AA is an Ancient Age brand Whiskey. very common brand from the 1940's

Thanks for the info, I knew somebody would know about the bottle. I figured it would be 40's or early 50's from the other bottle I have found in the same area.
Texas heat is here and bottle digging is postponed until cooler weather arrives. Stay tuned for more digging this fall.
