I do very much recommend the game, but brace yourself for hitting a brick wall at some point depending upon your play style. It is not so similar to other games that a fan of the MMO genre should even consider passing it up. The atmosphere is wonderful and many of the players are extremely nice. I haven't played since the summer so it's also possible some things have changed. Take a break from your main MMO for a month and try it out. Someday it may be gone for good.

@TankManHeavy - I found leveling fast up to about 90 (the cap being 220 iirc) and then the bottom dropped out. What you do is get someone to make you nature resist gear then you chop at hedges for long stretches. I'm sure there are better ways. The problem with games where you can eventually max out every skill on the same character is people don't make alts. If you want to group in the mid-game it will likely involve someone far more powerful doing you a favor, and not be much of a challenge.

Beware if you try this game. As you can see by this very thread, Ryzom players like to think of their game as very clever and unique and adult, and will become very defensive at any comparison to other MMOs, even though their entire game is lifted from Asheron's Call and Anarchy Online. It even uses the same sound effects.

Play it, though. It's pretty fun.
