I've heard that too because of the dual coat but he's 9 years old and been shaved many times to keep him cool in the hot & humid summers in New Jersey and Tennessee. He loves to be outside. In any case he's not my dog, he belongs to my girlfriend's parents and he's been shaved many times with no problems (sunburn, skin irritation, etc.).
