From Shangri-La we headed to Qiaotou, as we are aiming for the Tiger eaping Gorge. Qiaotou is now called Tiger Leaping Town (as an entry point to the gorge) BUT NO ONE TOLD US, so we missed the damn place and had to backtrack! A bit of a run-down place that, as far as being a tourist town, is doing very poorly... Crappy services, money charged for park access that goes nowhere useful, dirt, and general cluelessness of the tourist service staff: we couldnt get an honest answer regarding bus schedules or costs.. A bit of a laugh.

See it. Brace yourself though, I don't sugarcoat...

  • Both of you deserve a reward for that super awesome tourist experience. That phone thing was the part that just cracked me up.

  • Haha... Thanks. It was funny though, because completely unexpected, with the Tiger Leaping Gorge being such a major attraction. But what is REALLY interesting is that despite the experience in Qiaotou itself, the gorge was an AMAZING hike and I still reccomend it to everyone. Just don't stay in Qiaotou! At least not until they get their junk together.

    :-)

  • This is one of your saddest videos because of how polluted it is. I liked it because I want to give you guys the props, if I could, I would dislike it. I'm sure you understand. Awesome about the hotel though haha!

  • uh...the rubbish and pollution issues really are something to be worried of the development of the modern civillisation driving into rural areas in China. As some other villiages I visited before the earlier 90s were so natural that it never worried me by drinking water directly from the streams. But since the market economy and Chinese development gone further, plastic bags and some of the indissolvable rubbish started to appear in them. Very sad side of the modernisation in China.

  • well, thats why it's called an adventure...These little towns have just open up for tourists. I wouldn't expect quality service from them. But that's what made them dirt cheap.
