So is the HAR-1 gene and the 18 base pair difference between the human copy and the chimp one evidence against evolution? Not in the slightest.

The original video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im0-LTqOHxs

As an undergrad biochem major, and as an aspiring geneticist, genetics and DNA are especially dear to me, and its clear you didn't know what the original study was talking about, what it's relevance was to evolution or modern genetics, or the math associated with mutation rates and what the numbers actually represent. I mean, you say in your own video what they represent, and yet you miscontrue them to mean it's for the whole gene, and then pretend that it properly represents the whole karyotype. I'm not sure you know what half the jargon that you spouted in your video means, even if you seem to understand what a base pair is.

  • Evogen, Thanks! Great video! I don't see smoking as relevant to the subject of this video. I will assume you are aware of the issues pertaining to smoking and have made your decision and I won't be arrogant enough to chide you about it or anything else that may impact on health. That would kind of detract from the point of the video I think.

  • @stromatolite775 Thank you, Stromatolite. It's much appreciated. Apparently, some people can't help but get so hung up on my smoking that they miss the point of the video. : )

  • Is it really so surprising to christians that the one thing on us that has evolved the most is the one thing that has changed the most genetically?

Our brains have evolved to be quite unique. Why shouldn't we expect the genes for them to be different also?

  • @itsjustameme To correct you on one thing, not all christians are creationists. Some of them do in fact accept evolution as a naturalistic process.

  • It's funny that if atheists take something in the Bible out of context, we get a flood of messages saying that we don't know what we're talking about. However, when it comes to complex scientific theories, creationists are more than happy to bastardize and butcher what they read.

  • @caseagainstfaith Yup. I could even explain the biochemical reaction. But we all die at some point. Might as well go out with a smile. : P

  • @EvoGenVideos I think that part of problem is that a lot of theists believe that evolution is incompatible with the existence of God. The truth of the matter is, that, that is only true if you take a literal interpretation of just about any religious text. Unfortunately many people do that.

  • Dude, please, PLEASE tell me, that you've watched my video on this guy.

He must be really really unhappy, since two people that you know... Know something about biology ripped this video to shreds.

  • @EvoGenVideos

I know - in Denmark where I live less than 5% are creationists. And roughly 50% say they are christians.

    So yes - I overgeneralized.

  • @caseagainstfaith Well, believe what you want, but my apathy about my own smoking is real. There's no need to be idealistic about it.

  • Gonna go back and watch all your vids. Great stuff.

  • @EvoGenVideos I downloaded(with permission) a YT vid from a young man who had to watch his young mother die from smoking related illness. He documented the short time frame for her demise. I use this vid to show my students why smoking doesn't just affect the smoker. Check it out and it might help.

Put in the search , 'Thanks Tobacco you killed my mother'

    Take care.

  • The fact the fossil record clearly demonstrates there was over 2 billion years of single cellularity before even a sniff of multicelluraity should demonstrate to the creationist that evolution never has & never will move at a linear rate (for many reasons). The Maths(odds) is at best an overall estimation.

Also, his assertion self defeats the "common design" invention.

Not sure if i agree about asking them not to comment on biology because i can demolish KJV without being a biblical scholar.
