I thought the fires were too far away from the field for it to be used, but I was wrong. You can hear it was getting windy as the sun set (as well as KNX covering the fires in the background on the car radio). The following air tankers are overnighting at Fox Field as shown: 06, 07, 09, 10, 11, 12, 43, 44, 45, 48, 55 were at the USFS Pad; Super Scoopers 264 and 266 were by the Tower; 00 and 27 from Aero Union were also by the tower.

I think these smaller aircraft were support/lead aircraft, and are among many that were parked at the USFS Pad: N23W, N14CP, N717PP.

There were 2 more aircraft incoming on left base for Rwy 24, but it was too dark to determine whether they were tankers or lead aircraft...plus I was driving...

I heard that some of these were out at San Bern's Air Base this afternoon.

  • Tanker 09 crashed right after takeoff in Lemmon valley, NV just east of stead airport in Stead, NV

  • I read that they are planning to replace that P-2 with the Q400 civilian turboprop in the near future.

I will be sad to see them go.

  • Tanker 09 crashed yesterday Septmber 1 on a fire near Hope Valley in Nevada. All three crew members died.

They died in the line of duty trying to save the lives and property of others.

  • Nice to see P2V Neptunes still flying.
