It feels so weird watching this now, thanks for posting it. It's been probably 20 years since I've seen it, can't even remember any repeats of it on TV!

@ZetaCron They were life size. maybe slighty larger. The heads were definitely larger than life, so the electronics would fit and the operator's hand could manipulate the mouth. I guess the proportion of head to body was like an infants head to it's body - the head oversize.

Ahahaha, dont know why but this show entered my mind out the blue and i looked it up and, woah!! aint seen this is AGES!! and didnt realise it was a Kiwi show as a young kid. Classic stuff!!

Man. I was born in mid 89 (NZ), and I remember watching this from a VERY young age. My god, Mordred Darkvoid was just amazing XD It pains me that googling that name brings up basically nothing! We should change this, as he was just so darn menancing, and an epic name to boot!
I'd give my left (metaphorical) nut for a release of this series, but nearly 2 decades on, I'm guessing it's probably out of the question :(

@Antaeus494 Then you can answer for me one thing I've always wondered; How big are those puppets?

For years I though he was singing "Space Chums", I recently realised he's actually singing "Space Junk"

This show and "Today's Special" bring back so many memories...it's really creepy you didn't know you have that memory hiding in your head from so long ago then watching this it pops back! It's like "I remember watching that episode" !
I must have been 4 or 5 geez lol.

@Canadiantalentshines Actually the performer, Dave Dobbyn, did release the song as a single titled "Space Junk". I think it only ever appeared as a single (on 45rpm). Thanks very much for uploading this.

Man, you're me thats my story too. exactly! I could never get over the fact it wasn't memorable to others as like you say I could always remember the theme music.
Stuart Drybrough and Alun Bollinger worked on it- now they are world class cinematographers (were by then, actually). Chris Slane's puppets looked fabulous. Shooting it was awkward - Puppeteers had one hand in the head, another operated an arm. The second arm was out of shot, or operated by another person. The puppeteer worked off a reverse monitor, looking over a shoulder to see it on the floor. Eyes were remotely operated by yet another operator. The voices were pre-recorded. Whew!

Antaeus494, what you and the others created was an incredible show I have never seen the likes of since.
You wouldn't believe how many times I was glued to the television set after catching it on air one day in 90' or 91'.
It was an incredible piece of work and it deserves a wider distribution among potential new fans and I'm hoping the power the internet can do this.
Thank you for what you gave us.

I was going through a old show reel and wondered if this show had made it to the internet - glad it is. I was one of the puppeteers. We made it in Dec-Feb '88- '89 in Auckland. As I recall there were high hopes for it, and the initial scripts were good -Chris Slane's puppets were great. Conflict occured between producer, company and the originator (Jonathon Gunson), and it fell apart. We had fun on set, but boy it was hot that summer. This is a true post, so kindly refrain from flaming.

P.S. the song was weird, funny and catchy. It's a pity South Pacific never released it as a single.

I taped this in the early 90's off a Canadian TV channel called "Knowledge Network". They were showing many odd and unique programs at the time and this was one of them.
I'm glad I watched it. I've been a fan ever since and I have never seen it rebroadcast in Canada.
