  • Hi Carl What size or model of chuck is that? I mainly turn things in the 1 to 5 inch size and I don't want to get something too small or overly big.

    Thanks

    Charles

  • @nicholls611 Hi Charles, I use a "Nova Chuck" you can change the inserts to turn very small stuff.

  • Well the turning store didn't have a square skew in stock but they did have a 1/2" bowl gouge. Cant wait to try it out. Too cold today so I'll go out early tomorrow and getbthe heat going early.

  • @carr869 Sound good heat is a good thing :) I just uploaded a new video. I turned a piece of the Pear wood.

    Thanks again,

    Carl

  • Carl, Thanks for all your videos. Could you spend some time on finshing end grain. Is most of the smoothness accomplished by sharp tools or very slow turning.

    Thanks

  • @nokobill Yes sharp tools are a big part of it. A nice clean cut will help a great deal. Sanding in both directions helps out too.

  • dammmmm you do make using that skew look easy... but i am practising cheers.

  • @carr869 Hi Tom, some people like the oval I just started with the square so I stayed with it.

  • Howdy from SC, I had to watch this one again. My skew chisel skills are lacking to say the least. Also I use an oval skew instead of square cut like yours. Guess I need to make a new one. I see what your saying about the heel catching and riding up. I seem to do that alot. But I am getting a little better with it. Thanks again for the videos and sharing your skills with us. (Tom)

  • @lanegjones You can turn it anytime. The rule of thumb is an inch per year to dry.
