Roberta Flack showing how the song should be sung. Roberta made the defining version and the best. It doesn't stray from the delicate tune with vocal gymnastics. Here she is performing it live.

  • This is a rare classic -- an all time great that simply outclasses nearly all of the music heard today. Effortless and beautiful.

  • @themachinist1000 I also uploaded the orginal version by the way and I do think that Roberta's version is now the version that now defines the song the way that everyone else now covers it, not Peggy's, despite whether Peggy's and Ewan's version is better or not. If you follow me.

  • @amaxx1 The song was written in 1957 by British folksinger Ewan MacColl.. a lot of people on here seem to think it's written by Ms. Flack! As to the uploader, I've always disagreed that anyone can record a 'defining' version of a folk song. The person who writes it is 'definitive', as is everyone who sings it faithfully.

  • @Babooshka1960 It was written by Ewan MacColl by the way, unless you meant him?

  • I don't believe in God, but this song - this version - gives me religion. A truly sacred thing.

  • Glee brought me here- and their version was great- but this version is just amazing! Voice of an angel!

  • Words etched in my forever and my now.

  • Where can I get this version ???

  • can't hear this without crying, its so beautiful.

  • She is one of a kind. You can see and feel her when she sings.. One of my lifes favorites

  • The best song of Roberta. I had the pleasure of seeing her in concert. What a blessing!
