These videos are from my first deployment to the Persian Gulf, June-December, 1999. I was aboard HMCS Regina which was a part of a US Battlegroup headed by the USS Constellation aircraft carrier.
Yokosuka (pronounced Yo-KOS-ka) Japan was our second port visit after being diverted off our original path by the naughty North Koreans. Otherwise we'd have been in Cebu, Phillippines. We only had 4 days in each place and since there were 4 of us on the ship from Ottawa in our little section, one day would be spent on duty. That didn't leave a lot of time to do anything.
The video opens with our trip to Mount Kintoki. We'd already travelled on several buses to get to this point. While it was entertaining to us that a bunch of non-Japanese speakers made it that far, it didn't make for very interesting video so I left it out. It was very hot and humid that day and the fact that I wasn't exactly in Ironman shape made for an interesting climb. I'm really glad for those two stops where I could get some cold refreshments.
One thing I can say about the ship, the food was excellent. A little too excellent actually. After I got back I ended up going on a diet and losing 45 lbs, 30 of which I'm sure I put on thanks to the cooks on ship. I guess that's one way to get out of going to sea again, become too fat to fit through the hatches.
Next stop, 9 days in Thailand!!!
that sound are semi's...=D there like big ass bugs...LOL
