Great tune from blues master Slim. The High Numbers (who went on to become The Who) pinched this song and recorded it as I'm the Face!

  • to echo my earlier thoughts please note the High Numbers failed to add Slim as a writer which excluded him from any royalties. I think the boys could've given him some credit. Especially when black music at the time was being high jacked by white moguls who were only interested in making cash for themselves. Record execs etc (not the artists doing the cover as some dumb ass thought - see below!)

    Glad you like the selection...................plenty more on the way.

  • if not for some of those other bands who "ripped" this music, I am glad they did, because otherwise I would not have found this man's music

    besides, you know what they say....imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. And it's not imitation, really, but influence. You may not like what others did with his music, or the music that was inspired by this, but that IS the legacy. Such is the stuff of music, literature, and all other art forms.

    in response to your comment please nore the following;

    I said the High Numbers pinched his song not ripped it.......................I didn't say I don't like it. In actual fact Iove the High Numbers tune and yes imitation is the sincerest from of flattery. I posted this tune for my pleasure and the pleasure of others. The reason I made reference to the High Numbers 'cover' is to let those who didn't know an interesting fact about the song. I hope this is clear.

    sorry that should read please note the following ;-)

  • I agree with you entirely. Musiccomes from sorrow as well as happiness, music reflects the soul, the inner being. Music allows people to express themselves it's a window of emotions.

  • This is one of my favorite blues tunes of all time. Wonderful !

  • I was speaking collectively to those who disparaged that others did this song, not specifically aiming at you.

    Either way, I am glad I found this!

  • everyone ripper songs.. who cares! their all good.. dylan's first album was all ripped. he didn't write a song on it! elvis got his style from arthur big boy Ccudup and everyone else did to. so what the people who did the song next suck? lol the only bad thing is that these old folk/blues players didn't get a dime sitting on a pouch drunk singing form the soul after a long day in the fields. all in all sleepy john estes blew me away being blind and all. you can really feel his shit.

  • Whoa! Another Band that 'ripped' errr "borrowed" from 'Ole Slim' THANKD for The info. ..and The upload!!

  • The reason? some are really good and some are horrible, as you know it's happening now, some are really good and some are not, some of the cover songs you hear now are really good, just like the 60's 70s, etc.

  • Some tunes can't be bettered..probably THE Mod tune for me.
