Talos FG is the robot I built for my Senior Science Fair at Garretson High School; the purpose was to build an affordable base unit automaton for future expansion in order to develop a line of affordable home robots; this is the prototype.

It's entirely self-contained and needs no external computing assistance or power, although obviously during lengthy testing phases such as these, I'm gonna have it hooked up.

These first steps are run at about 1/4 speed with pauses for me to analyze motor positions, and are it's very first recorded consecutive steps. There is much room for further improvements, but much of that is simply removing the time constraints.

The prototype robots leading up to the final development of this one are as follows:
X-Species I (2004-2005)
X-Species II (2006-2007) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ciLWkTSJvA (it's come a long ways since this)
VSR-1: Talos (2007-2008)

This robot was developed by myself, working off previous versions developed by me and Anthony Winterton as a hobby for our Engineering Fairs at our local high school in Garreston, SD. This was not a professional endeavor- this was simply a High School Science Fair project.

Ask questions if you have any, I'll do my best to answer them.
**This was not a kit.

  • @2010hijack Ha, I'll be honest Im kinda shocked that my video's viewing popular is greatest in Russia over the US. I get what you're saying, fluid walking motion using momentum would definitely create a more graceful robot, the problem primary is computing power and sensory input accuracy. With static movements such as this, it's easy fro the computer to detect if something is misalligned and fix it. With momentum involved, the whole game is changed. definitely a challenge in robotics, no lie.

  • So you started the project when you were a freshman and finished it as a senior? How did you manage to get all the parts?

  • @granadofidel started this project in 7th grade, finished it as a Senior. I got the metal and steel from Menards, believe it or not. Cut and brazed everything together according to our schematics, and welded the steel parts as well. My partner and I actually took a year off this project 8th grade year and built a CNC machine, which then allowed us to fabricate intricate metals parts for a complex model like this. Actuators, motor control boards I got from online, wires/mis. at Radioshack ha

  • I do not know if you understand this, but to simple minds like mine this is completely awesome and mind-blowing...! And from two people who are not even adults yet??? Bravo!!!

  • @Mpoufh Ha it was a lot of trial and error for learning... this all started with simply remote control servos like the ones used in model airplanes when we were in Middle School
