Requested by the youtuber tubeie07, Tubeie here is the inside of my 1957 Motorola HI FI Phonograph, i show the turntable and the guts of this player, and i show the Motorola 2 6V6GT Tube Amplifier with 6AU6 12AU7A's 5Y7 tube amp inside alot in this video, the turntable doesnt work very well it seems to want to constantly change records and i think the wiring between the needle and amp needs to be redone but it plays all the different RPM record it plays the 78's the 45's and the 33's and the rare 16 RPM there is about 50 records that came with the unit (i didnt count em all) and a newspaper clipping of how to restore these things possibly, there is a website on the clipping its www.tuberadiorepair.com the clipping is from a just for seniors publication it was in with the records, the amp itself needs work, this is the way i got it just like this my cousin wanted to just get rid of it but i got it now, I hope i can fix this thing so i can have a vintage ipod speaker, so can anyone help me? damusician, speedyc395, AllAmericanFiveRadio can any of you help me fix this thing like give some advice on what to do, thanks

  • I have this same unit but am having a hard time finding needles for it. Mine plays great and can rattle the house with it's heavy bass

  • @sauerkraut145

Mine needs a needle but If I have to I'll update it with a plug in needle thats used on those DJ scratch turntables or something. I know that will lower its value but I dont care I just want it to play music and play records and my ipod. I wqant to play a rap song with lots of bass and see what this puppy can do. can you please post and send me a video of yours rattling the house with bass? if it gets removed off youtube then i'll give u my email and you can send it direct.

  • I've still got my users guide for this unit...

Here are the specs for these units:

    Frequency Response: +- 1 db 20 to 20,000 CPS

    Maximum output: 20 amps

    Distortion: 1.5% at 10 watts

    Tone Controls: Bass + 10db - 15db at 50 CPS / Treble + 7db - 12db at 10,000 CPS

Stylus: Sapphire standard groove point / Diamond micro-groove point

    Stylus pressure: 9 grams

  • wow good to know, these things can handle 20 Hz like the subsonic bass thats in a lot of rap songs like kanye wests song heartless and in a lot of frequency test songs so i can bump the bass with 10 watts of mono motorola tube power lol i need to make a patch cable that will adapt a stereo signal to a mono one without blowing my ipod's amp.

  • Does anyone know what the heck is a 16 RPM record, I never seen one, I wonder what those 16 RPM records are used for? They must be very rare, But many old record players all played 4 speeds.

  • a 16 rpm record is a very rare record that spins at 16 revolutions per minute yea slow huh i bet these dont sound too good b/c ive never seen one in action

  • first off you might want to recap the amp. that hum when you start up is a classic sign. youll kill the tubes quickly. id suggest getting a schematic and tracing the problem. nostalgiaair has alot of good schematics and repair tips. but yea get those big electrolytics replaced and those paper caps. if you dont know how to do it you could find an inexpensive repair shop that may do it for you(private old man type preferred lol) if you mail the chassis remove all tubes bc shops steal the USA tubes

  • this video is extremely annoying with the camera shaking & clicking etc. You need to re-cap the entire amp, test the tubes and clean all the knobs with contact cleaner. Then you need to get the turntable restored. It will need 2 b de-greased & lubed, new rubber idler wheel, probably a new replacement cartridge & definitely a new needle. Speakers should be ok but should be checked 4 tears, if so they can be re-coned as well. Find a good tech 2 do the amp. I can refer u 2 a good turntable tech.

  • I am incorrect.. just noticed that your hum increased/ decreased with your volume control. So I agree with unajunkcollector, your cartridge connections are bad. The filter caps do go bad on these old sets and cause a steady state hum, although your set seems to be ok. The turntable idler wheels become contaminated and need to be de-glazed, cleaned, or replaced. The distortion may be from your ipod volume setting too high, and the preamp input is being overloaded. Try turning the ipod down.

  • You'd be surprised how little is wrong with this unit. however, do not attempt to fix yourself. Inexperience usually results in doing more harm, and there's lethal voltages inside. Leave this to an experienced tech. Your amp needs to be recapped, your filter cans/caps are the cause of hum and distorted audio. The turntable just needs disassembly, the old grease removed, and lubed with the CORRECT lube. It's easy if you know what to do.. but .. knowledge, skill, and cleanliness is mandatory.

  • wow...

  • Congratulations, you learned a new big word, and typed out you! Though for some reason you left open quotes. For shame.

  • the hum is most likely a bad cartridge in the record player. This changer was made by VM. Perhaps you can find a good working one to drop in IF you have some rekees.

  • its 20 watts output not amps, but hey i say amps instead of watts alot haha
